Finals match last night was exciting and at the same time, sprinkled with some comedy. With 39.9 seconds left in the final minute, Frontline up 2 with ball possession, Elijah tried to facilitate an isolation play for Shane but his pass was intercepted by Dustin who passed the ball to Paolo. In the same sequence, Dustin trailed Paolo on his way to the basket and made an offensive rebound off a missed layup and made a putback for 2 to tie the game at 54. Flippers pressed on defense from the back court . After Eren crossed the half court line, Jamil was there to meet him that caused him to stop dribbling the ball. Dustin saw the situation while running back down for defense and decided to double team Eren on the side. Eren saw the trap coming and unconsciously exposed the ball to Jamil who, like a hungry hawk, took the ball away and made a leading pass to Dustin who was already sprinting up for an easy 2. Flip Tropics up by 2. Frontline’s Elijah, after receiving the ball, ran from end to end to tie the score with a layup but got fouled. Eli missed the 1st free throw that decided the game.
Side note: Jamil, as the team captain of Flip Tropics, displayed true leadership from the start of the regular season. He allowed his team mates to enjoy the games and let his team mates play the majority of the regular season while probably assessing his team mates come post season. Cal Rumbaoa, a core player for Flip Tropics, injured a finger early in the 1st half and did not play after. Gwen delos Santos, last season’s MVP, stepped up his game to fill in for Cal. Paolo and Gwen carried their team until the moment Dustin’s heroics under a minute left, have his hand print on all 3 critical plays. Paolo is the MVP of the night but Dustin deserved the accolades for his toughness and IQ, “Player of the Night”
